Last Year’s Memories, This Year’s Buzz

Hard to believe, but we’ve already crossed the half-way mark between last year’s Canfield Fair and this year’s. So it’s a great time to reflect on the past, and to start getting excited about the future!

What A Great Year 2009 Was!
Total attendance for the 2009 Canfield Fair was 318,748 — an increase of nearly 6 percent over the previous year.

Along with the usual six days of Family, Friends, Fun and Food, Fairgoers enjoyed the Demolition Derby and many other grandstand attractions, including performances by country legends Hank Williams Jr. and George Jones.

Another great thing — the weather really cooperated in 2009, with only one day of less-than-favorable conditions. Otherwise, there was plenty of sunshine and moderate temperatures — the perfect combination for enjoying the Fair.

2010 Will Be Even Better
Planning for an upcoming Canfield Fair is something that goes on year-round, and the 2010 Fair is certainly no exception.

Of course, we already know the dates for the upcoming Fair: Wednesday, September 1 through Monday, September 6.

Right now we’re working on finalizing the entertainment schedule for this year. We should be able to tell you who and what will be featured in our next E-Newsletter — and this info will be posted on the Fair website, along with other updates, in the months to come.

Find Us Online
In addition to frequent updates to our website, we’ll get a better head start on all of our Social Media this year, too, so there will be even more to see. If you haven’t become a Facebook fan or Twitter follower of the Fair yet, now would be a great time to do so. (See the next story for details.)

Finally, be sure to tell your out-of-town family and friends about all the Fair resources that are available online. We hope they’ll be inspired to plan a visit to the 2010 Canfield Fair — but if they can’t, it’s the next best thing to being there!

Tradition Meets Technology:
the Fair on the Web and in Social Media
The 2009 Canfield Fair will forever be remembered as one that brought this 163-year-old Mahoning County tradition into the modern age. Consider this:

• The Fair’s website (www.canfieldfair.com) was given a major overhaul, with an exciting new look, many new informational features, and upgraded technology such as streaming video.

• The Fair embraced the new Social Media in a big way. For the first time, Fair fans could turn to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr and YouTube for an instantaneous, real-time Fair fix.
  • We’re thrilled to report that The Canfield Fair now has over 10,000 fans on Facebook (www.facebook.com/canfieldfair).
And those fans come not only from Mahoning County, but from all over the world. Former area residents who miss the Fair could still be a part of it in spirit as they enjoyed live reports from those who were there. Twitter followers of the Fair had that same opportunity (twitter.com/CanfieldFair).
  • The Canfield Fair page on Flickr has over 450 photos submitted by fans of the Fair, including some from previous years. What a great way to show family and friends from far away all the fun you’re having! And by the way, you can still submit your favorite Fair photos to this page.
  • YouTube helped provide an even more immediate Fair experience for one and all, with videos that covered many aspects of the Fair. What could be better than seeing real people enjoying all the fun of the Fair (and real animals, too!)?
Last year’s videos can still be seen at
