Send Us Your Fair Stories

Everyone has a story, and with years and years of memories of previous Fairs to draw upon, we’re sure you have more than a few. So tell us about how you met your sweetheart here, ran into friends you hadn’t seen in years, got lost as a youngster, talked to the animals, got scared on a ride, and much more. Share your parents’ and grandparents’ memories, too.

Submit your stories by email to submissions@e.canfieldfair.com, and watch for them on this page.

"...when I was little and my Gram took us on the Himalayan - the highlight of it was when her wig flew off! Fair time has not been the same since she passed away - she loved going to it."

"listening to the hilarious announcements ( i still miss them), marching with the band from JM, looking at the pumpkins, eating blueberry donuts at the 4-h booth behind the granstand in the moring, wanting every baby animal i saw, sitting in a barn with my dad waiting for the torrential rain pour to stop while he talked to the farmers when i was ... "When I was young, we spent all 5 days at the fair. The traffic going to the fair was unbelievable...we would be in the car for hours.. people would be pulling off to the side of the road due to their radiators over heating, and asking home owners for water. It was usually the same long line leaving the fair. We stayed each night till closing. We... Read More saw every exhibit and would have bags full of free stuff ( calendars, pins, pens, badges, etc) We usually had a picnic out by the car. I loved the animals, the farm machinery, and the photography exhibit. I still do...and the memories of my Dad at the fair and how much he loved it."

"Back in 1972, I was a young sailor (originally from Struthers) ending a tour of duty in Washington, D.C.. While stationed there, I met the love of my life and we were married on September 2, 1972. Since we got married in Maryland – all of my family travelled from Ohio to Maryland for the wedding. Since we were about to leave for overseas duty (Spain) we figured our ‘honeymoon’ could be spent in Ohio!

After all, my family and friends were all in Maryland! And since it was Fair week-end, we spent our first days as a married couple roaming around the fairgrounds – riding the rides, watching the shows, and just enjoying the atmosphere of the fair! We had a great time!

I think in the nearly 37 years since then, we’ve only been back for the Fair once or twice. But what wonderful memories we have of our honeymoon at the Canfield Fair in 1972!"
